WELSH SECRETARY SAYS FLOODING IN WALES COULD BE THE RESULT OF CLIMATE CHANGE

About 400 properties were deluged in St Asaph when the River Elwy burst its banks

Welsh Secretary David Jones has visited people affected by floods in north Wales and questioned whether they may have been victims of climate change.

On a visit to St Asaph, Mr Jones said he believed Tuesday's floods were an "exceptional occurrence", which could be "climate change manifesting itself".

He also said flooding at the Glasdir estate, Ruthin, was worrying, as residents ask why defences failed.

DOHA, Qatar — An area of Arctic sea ice bigger than the United States melted this year, according the U.N. weather agency, which said the dramatic decline illustrates that climate change is happening “before our eyes.”

Sea levels are rising 60 percent faster than the UN's climate panel forecast in its most recent assessment, scientists reported on Wednesday.

At present, sea levels are increasing at an average 3.2 millimetres (0.125 inches) per year, a trio of specialists reported in the journal Environmental Research Letters.
