Default Some branches of Quakerism do

Some branches of Quakerism do not believe the Word of God is infallible; but each man/woman will have their OWN revelation within to determine truth! The Quakers I know are against President George Bush because of the confrontation in Iraq! Yet they call themselves a Christian denomination...I don't get it! How can a group claim this when they don't even believe the Bible is infallible and they want to support a candidate who agrees with abortion and homosexual marriage? Sheesh!

Default All branches of Quakers belie

All branches of Quakers believe Jesus is the Word of God, Anon 63. And, yes, ultimatly, it is our experience that determines Truth. But, isn't that the same for everyone if we were honest?

Quakers are not "against" George Bush. We are against war. Quakers are pacifists, just as are Mennonites, Brethren, and some Pentecostal denominations.

Homosexual marriage? Have you really been listening? John Kerry comes out AGAINST homosexual marriage.

One thing that Quakers really value is complete and total honesty. It concerns me greatly that statements such as you have made about John Kerry are not true, yet Christians continue to repeat them over and over and over. They seem to have no regard for Truth.

Abortion? I am a Quaker and feel very strongly about abortion. I am very opposed to abortion. However, there are other issues that are just as important in this election. Either way, the president is Republican, the House and Senate are Republican ...yet, abortion is still allowed. What is up with that?

My feeling is that Bush is using the religious right to push his agenda...all in the name of God. I would challenge you to look at the history of Nazi Germany and how religion was used and think about the parallels in our own nation. I would especially encourage you to read Dietrich Bonheffer and what he said about religion and politics.

God is not a Republican, Anon 63...neither is He a Democrat. We are citizens of the Kingdom of God and that is where our true and final allegiance should lie. Our hope and faith is in God, not a political party or any candidate.

    May peace be yours!

Default that i agree we are citizens

that i agree we are citizens of the kingdom of God ..the constitution is mans law ,the bible is Gods law ..i claim no allegience to republican or democratic parties ..that post was right ..we still have abortions ,gay marriages ..etc some churches are using those 2 issues to instigate the vote for Bush ..but they ignore the damage that adminastration has done : pollution , high gas prices and rising , loss of jobs, job oursourcing ,etc.

Not only that, Anon 69, but many (most?) pro-life advocates are pro-life only until the baby is born. After that they couldn't give a rats behind about health care, environmental issues, affordable housing, education, abuse issues, etc.

Pro-life does not end at birth as many Christians would seem to believe.

A consistant pro-life ethic begins at conception and ends at death. Bottom line.

M, I looked over the Constitution Party website and there are many issues there on which we can agree.

There are some issues with which I think most Quakers would disagree. Not major stuff however.

I live in North Carolina. The only third party on the ballot is the Libertarian Party. It is really tough for third parties to get ballot access here. I think that is unfortunate as every party has a right to run candidates, in my humble opinion.

    Take Good Care!

Quakers are among the most Godly people I know. Especially the liberal quakers who actually agree with Jesus as reported in Luke.

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is with me.He has anointed me to tell the Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to announce forgiveness to the prisoners of sin
and the restoring of sight to the blind,
to forgive those who have been shattered by sin,
19 to announce the year of the Lord's favor.”

    Luke 4:18-19 (GW)
